Congratulations to Lion Bill Taylor who received the Lion of the Year Award for 2007-2008
Lion Dick Runstrom honored for 50 years of Lionism
Lions International recently recognized Lion Dick Runstrom "85" for all that he has accomplished in Lionism, and his 50 years of dedicated service to the Lions and his communities.
Fifty years ago Dick joined the Saginaw Lion's Club and while with the Saginaw club he held almost every office within that club, including president in 1964-1965 and he also was selected by that club to attend the 1965 Lions International Convention in Los Angeles.
For ten years, from the mid 70's to mid 80's, he organized Golden Gloves boxing matches as a Saginaw Lion's Club money maker. These matches generated about $56,000 per five night event, out drawing cities such as Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint. As a result of this activity Lion Dick was featured in a Sports Illustrated article and in an interview that was aired on the Paul Harvey radio show.
In 1993 Lion Dick was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, then in 1994 he was selected as Saginaw Lion of the year, and in both 1993 and 1995 he was the "Mint King of Michigan" having been responsible for the Saginaw Club having sold more mints than any in the state.
In 1997 after moving to this area he transferred to the Cadillac Lion's Club and noted right away that their mint sales only generate a meager $600 - $700 a year. Without being asked he took charge of the club's mint sale program and in short order mint sales were earning his new club over $2000 a year. In recognition of this accomplishment he was named Zone Lion of the year for 2001.
And just 4 years ago he realized that our club had never awarded any of its members a Melvin Jones Fellowship and on his own he organized a fundraiser to finance a Melvin Jones Award for Lion Pete Buehler a very deserving member of Cadillac Lions Club.

"Sight for Life" On Saturday August 23rd the Cadillac Lions held its 2nd annual "Sight for Life" Golf Scramble on the Front 9 (Par 36) out at McGuire's Spruce/Norway Golf Course Resort here in Cadillac. Under grey skies the tee-off started with 33 golfers at 10:30 am with the scramble featuring challenges at the 1-3-5-7-9 holes varying from left-handed tee-off at Hole 1 to blind folded tee-off at the 9th Hole. The rain held off for the most part until just a few teams were left on the course reaching their final holes. The brave at heart battled the weather to complete the course while some (the smart ones) just turned and ran for the club house to avoid getting soaked. Towels were furnished at the luncheon held afterwards by McGuire's along with a delicious meal. Prizes were given for the 1st three teams and door prizes and drawings were held throughout the luncheon. One lucky person walked away with a 2 night stay donated by Sunset Shores Condominiums here in Cadillac as our main door prize. A good time was had by all who attended and helped out both on the golf course and off. We would like to thank the individuals and businesses in this community that supported this event either through sponsoring a hole or donating a prize

Cadillac Lions Fencing Team
When the Daily's dog Grover was attacked and injured in their own back yard by another dog Carl and Cathy knew they had to do something, not just because Grover is a beloved member of the family but also because Grover is Cathy's eyes, companion, her best friend, he's Cathy's Leader Dog.
After talking it over and weighing all the options they decided that a fence was needed around their backyard to keep Grover safe and to give him a protected place to play. Lion Carl being blind himself knew just where to go to request some help with this project and from that request the Cadillac Lions Fencing Team was formed.
Manned with a few hand tools, a power saw and gas powered ice auger to dig the post holes the team in the span of a morning had the poles set and the slat sections up and by that afternoon Grover had a place to call his own.
"The SHACK" is BACK!
Last spring it was pulled from the icy depths of Lake Cadillac and its been waiting all summer long now for a 2nd year - slightly weathered and with a new name "Sink the Shack" is back!
It may have a new name but it's the same game. The "Shack" located down by the park is just sitting on the ice of Lake Cadillac, with park cameras turned it's waiting for warmer weather. Now it's just up to Mother Nature to decide when the "Shack" will fall through and into the water again choosing our winner.
Ticket sales are now closed. A "thank you and good luck" to all those who bought tickets! ("Sink the Shack" is 100% eco-friendly)
